Singapore, first day.
A looong flight to get here! Over 16 hours non-stop. We were in Premium Economy, so comfortable seats and good meals. I managed to get some sleep, it's a night flight all the way. On approach over the bay you can see the hundreds of freighters and other boats, quite a sight.
We had a pre-booked transfer to the Fullerton hotel. It was a friendly and efficient service and then a warm welcome at the hotel. Though we arrived at 9am we were able to check in to our room. Karen and Aaron have been here in Singapore for a few days so they came by our room on their way back from breakfast. Ian didn't get much sleep on the plane so he went for a nap.
Karen, Aaron and I took a taxi over to Gardens by the Bay (about 15 minutes and a little over $10.00. This is one of Singapore's top tourist attractions. The outdoor gardens and exhibits are free. The Cloud Forest , Flower Dome and Super Tree observatory are extra. We just walked around the outside areas. It's a nice temperature today, high 20s, humid with a nice breeze. From there we walked to Marina Bay Sands, the iconic 3 towered hotel with huge mall at the foot. We walked in to have a quick look, there was a really cool animated floor that was a hit with the kids!
Then along the river a bit, over the Helix pedestrian bridge past an area under construction. From there along the water and past the Esplanade and back over the Jubilee pedestrian bridge to Merlion park with it's famous fountain. Lots of people taking pictures here!
I had a short rest, then met the hotel rep that I had corresponded with many times over the years for clients who stay at the Fullerton Hotel. She gave me a great tour of the 2 hotel properties.
Afterwards Ian and I went out for a short walk then back to our room for a drink on the balcony and a rest before dinner.
At dusk we walked about 15 minutes to Lau Pau Sat, a Hawker market and also the Satay Street. At 7pm they close a street and set up satay stands. Less than $1.00 per stick, but most people are ordering huge amounts so it's not fast. But fun and very good! We had chicken and shrimp along with pitchers of beer, then tried some chicken rice a favorite Singapore dish. A walk back to the hotel enjoying the mild temperature and the lights. And now more than time for bed!

The Cloud Forest and gardens are lovely.. Glad you made it there ok, even though it was long. Singapore is interesting.
