Singapore last day
Our included breakfast at the Amoy was at a restaurant in the covered pedestrian mall attached to the hotel. Slow service but good food. Karen and I both had the Kaya French Toast, which had coconut jam between the bread slices, and served with fried banana.
We then took a taxi to Fort Canning. We could have taken the metro, but for 4 people the cost was about the same. Fort Canning is now a park, and it's a lovely green space in the middle of Singapore. There are buildings dating from the British Colonial era, underground bunkers and tunnels, and lots of gardens and paths. The Heritage Gallery has a great history display from the 1300s to the present day. Lots of good exhibits, and it's free. The Spice Garden was very interesting as well, showing many of the plants, and explaining the history of the Spice Trade. It was a nice change to be off the streets and in a quiet green space! We caught a Grab (the local Uber) back, very efficient. Back at the hotel I had an iced coffee at the little place around the corner, and put my feet up for an hour.
Karen and I went for another walk around the area. It's much busier today being a weekday. It's so interesting seeing the contrast of old and new in Singapore, the restored shop houses with the modern high-rises towering over them. And a temple or two mixed in.
An early dinner at a Sichuan restaurant near our hotel, and an early night as our pickup is for 5:30am!
