Singapore Chinatown

It was a very easy and orderly dis-embark from the Westerdam. We were in no rush, and got off just before 9am. Breezed through Singapore customs. We hit a snag with our transfer, even though we'd had a message telling us license number etc, no one showed up, and no contacts worked. I'm thinking maybe AI customer support? Anyways we grabbed a cab to our hotel the Amoy in Chinatown by a bit after 10:30am. We checked our bags, then went for a walk around China Town. First to the Sri Mariamman Hindu temple, and then down the street to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. Lots of really interesting buildings, and street markets in this area. Because it's Sunday, this area is much less busy than usual, and many of the restaurants aren't open. After a bit we went into an air conditioned mall for a cold drink and a relax, then to 7 11 to pick up some supplies. After that back to the hotel to check into our rooms.

The Amoy is a bit of a quirky hotel. It's a boutique hotel on the site of a temple. Not for those who have accessible challenges as there are odd stairs here and there including in the rooms. Very friendly staff, and a great location.

Both Karen and Ian needed some down time, and I had a cup of tea in the room and relaxed for a bit. Then I went for another walk around the area. There are several pedestrian streets, and I went into a huge mall that was a bit overwhelming. There are some really interesting bronze statuses with some of the history of Singapore.

This evening we walked down the street to the Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre, and had Fried Kway Teow for dinner. It's a stir-fried rice noodle dish, not sure what all was in it, but it's delicious! (and only $7.50, beer is $10.00 a glass or $25.00 for a pitcher)

  1. hi everyone, including Carla, thanks very much Carla for your very good blog. I enjoy reading it. You’re good at it. We love Singapore. It’s a fabulous place and it has a lot of biology in addition to its nearly 5,000,000 population. See you when you get back. All the best. Cheers, Dorian and Jessie
